Feast of Saint Blaise - Blessing of Throats (Worship)
Date: 02/03/2015
Location: Saint Anne's Church
Time: 7:30AM - 10:15AM
Fease of Saint Blaise - February 3rd
St. Blaise was an early bishop of Sebastea in Armenia who was martyred under the emperor Licinius around the year 316. While we know little of his life there is one legend that has him saving the life of a boy with a fish bone caught in his throat. The boy’s mother is said to have brought Blaise food and candles when he was imprisoned. Thus, we have the use of two candles in the throat-blessing ceremony, still practiced today. While the candles are held under the chin and against the throat, this prayer is said:
Through the intercession of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from every disease of the throat and from every other illness: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Blessing of Throats The Blessing of Throats will take place on Tuesday, February 3rd during the 7:30AM and 9:00AM Masses and in Church from 9:45AM – 10:15AM.

Healing Symposium - Lent, A Season of Mercy (Worship)
Date: 02/23/2015 - 02/23/2015
Location: Saint John Vianney Room (Rectory)
Time: 9:30-10:30AM or 7:30-8:30PM
Lent...A Season of Mercy
Dear Parishioners,
Many of you participated in the first two seasons of our Healing Symposium. We enjoyed the insights of the six presenters who shared various points on the importance of healing.
The third season of our symposium will coincide with the 2015 Lenten season and will be shaped by our Lenten faith. The focus of this Healing Symposium season will be the place of mercy in the experience of healing, the call from Pope Francis that parishes become “islands of mercy”, and the hope the parish may provide encouragement and support for your Lenten practice.
Using the Sunday gospels as a discussion point, we will join together in guided reflections and discuss ways to incorporate the Works of Mercy into our everyday lives as we strive to be healed and to be healers.
I invite you to join with other parishioners in making this Lent a shared and special time.
Sincerely in Christ,
Symposium Dates
· You will have company. You won’t have to battle alone to keep your Lenten resolution.
· You will become more familiar with Lenten gospels.
· You will be better prepared for Sunday Mass.
· You will be able to practice the Works of Mercy as part of your Lenten practice.
· You will be able to choose morning or evening participation, whatever is best for you.
· You will learn some things about healing in the light of the gospel.
· You will hear from fellow parishioners and you might meet some new persons.
· You will have done something “extra and positive” during the Lenten season.
· You will experience grace, learning, and community.
· You will do some praying.
All this will be accomplished in just four mornings or evenings! Sounds like a great Lent. What more could you want?
